| New Haven EF-3 Freight Locomotives |

Built by Baldwin (EF-3) and GE (EF-3-a), these beautiful and powerful locomotives had a reputation for being able to easily pull and accelerate any train connected to their drawbars, including 20-car strings of Pullmans and steam trailer. Designed for freight operations between Sunnyside, in Queens, New York, and Cedar Hill, east of New Haven, Connecticut, they are most easily distinguished from the similar, passenger EP-4, by shorter blower grilles, recessed nose doors, and lack of third rail equipment. However, the heavier EF-3s were also 3-feet longer than their passenger siblings. Beginning in 1944, the Baldwin-built units were retrofitted with steam boilers, and reclassified as EF-3-b. Our models feature finely finished and detailed, diecast metal bodies, chassis and sideframes. The models are finished in authentic colors and are fully assembled and ready to operate from track power or from live catenary through the fully articulated pantographs. |
