| Penn Central FL-9 Locomotives |
When the New Haven Railroad ceased operations in 1968, the road's (60) EDER-5 and EDER-5a locomotives, along with a plethora of other equipment, were inherited by the fledgling Penn-Central. Designed to operate as conventional diesel-electrics in most districts, they also operated as third-rail electrics into Grand Central Terminal; hence the unique, electric-diesel-electric classification. Though scorned early on, often for good reason, these products of the mid-20th Century would continue in service for a half-Century. Several examples are still operating in 2008. With tight budgets, many of the locomotives continued to wear their flashy McGinnis black-red-white, with mere road number changes and interim PC graphics on their flanks. Soon, some FL-9s began to receive new liveries, including all-over PC black, and blue and yellow in several variations. Our models are finished in authentic colors and are fully assembled and ready to operate. |
